Gone to Graveyards

Streak Wilson #2

Folks said Streak Wilson rode with the Devil, and they steered clear of him—but when something with a taste for human blood began stalking the woods, they needed the sharpest tracker and best shot in the county: Streak Wilson!

They said Streak Wilson made a deal with the Devil! Friends drifted away and neighbors steered clear. Until they needed him.

Something that ate human flesh had come into the woods. And the townsfolk looked for help from the sharpest tracker and best shot around: Streak Wilson!

Streak went into the woods to slay the beast. And the hunt went on, through a silent forest and into the dark, twisted corners of a man’s memory.

And Streak Wilson learned there was more than one monster in the woods!

AESOP’S TRAVELS

In the rough and lawless Dakota Territory, Charlie Greenfield rides out to seek revenge on the men who framed him for murder, accompanied by barkeep Beefy Beaumont and Aesop, an orphaned kid with a knack for sharp-shooting.

DAKOTA TERRITORY, 1889: In a vast expanse of weak law and rough justice, barkeeper Beefy Beaumont found a youngster sleeping behind his saloon. The kid was dirty, slow-witted, and half-wild, but Beefy cleaned him up, gave him a job, and named him Aesop.

Beefy’s friend Charlie Greenfield is framed by his father for the murder of his brother, and temporarily avoids the noose, thanks to his sometime lover, Maude Hubbard. Then, when armed men come for Charlie's head, Aesop astonishes them all with his sharp-shooting skill.

Now Charlie must go after the men who framed him, and Beefy has to go with him—and take the slow-witted Aesop along.

Their travels take them through attacks by renegade Indians and local bad men, hired killers, horse thieves and lynch mobs. But mostly the travels bring them to a knowledge of each other, and an understanding often painful to bear.

“A fantastic story (in both senses of the word) from a wicked storyteller. You can practically hear the bullets whistle through the air – and smell the brimstone.”

— Charles Ardai, founder/editor of Hard Case Crime
